Stavros

“The Zorbas beach”
Stavros is a seaside village located 17 km northeast of Chania, near the northern tip of Akrotiri. Characteristic of the area is the mountain Vardies in the shape of a camel that rises opposite the port of the village with the cave of Stavros. The scenes of the movie “Zorba the Greek” were shot on this mountain, where Anthony Quinn danced the famous sirtaki in 1964. At that time Stavros was just a small fishing village. Today the area has developed into a large tourist resort, with many hotels and tourist infrastructure. Both beaches of the area contribute to its development.
